Artist: Picasso - Owl


Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973) was one of the most famous and prolific artists ever. Picasso had tremendous diversity and abundance to his career. The owl drawing is from 1949; the owl is a reoccurring theme in Picasso drawing, painting and sculpture. Picasso had a great love for birds with his favorite being owls and doves. He even named his daughter Palamo which means dove in Spanish. Picasso used these owl drawings for a sculpture he was working on. You can check out some of Picasso owl images here.

Materials: Heavyweight drawing paper, sketching pencil, sharpie and watercolor pencils or oil pastels to finish.

Step #1: Draw a oval for he head, then draw eyes and beak.
Step #2: Draw an oval for the body.
Step #3: Draw wings and tail feathers. Then add the owls legs and talons.
Step #4: Draw the perch for the owl stand on. Then draw in the details for the feathers. Picasso used line very effectively to create the design of the owls feathers.
Step #5: Finish the project with your choice of materials. Have fun and be creative.
