What is Happening the Week Of December 5th

This week at the Rumriver Art Center the art journal and drawing students will be inspired by the Dutch master Vermeer. We will be using his 1665 painting "The Girl with Pearl Earring" as our inspiration to learn about constructing a portrait. Johannes Vermeer was a Dutch painter who specialized in exquisite, domestic interior scenes of middle class life. Vermeer was a moderately successful provincial genre painter in his lifetime. He seems never to have been particularly wealthy, leaving his wife and children in debt at his death, perhaps because he produced relatively few paintings, just around 35.

The mixed media class will be working on the bird on the wire project. The project combines a number of mediums and materials.
