Animal Drawing: Holiday penguins
Penguins are a great subject for holiday projects. In this project i use a simple figure eight design penguin. Penguins are a group of aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere, especially in Antarctica. Highly adapted for life in the water, penguins have countershaded dark and white plumage, and their wings have become flippers. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid, and other forms of sealife caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their lives on land and half in the oceans. In this project we use the penguins to create a fun holiday drawing by giving them skates and winter clothing. We work on scale and proportion of the penguins using color to create space and depth.
Materials: heavyweight paper, sketching pencils, sharpie and watercolor pencils.
Step #1: Draw light guidelines across the center and down the middle of the paper. Draw three large 8's as shown below.
Step #2: Draw the eyes and the penguin beaks. Make the eights more like ovals as shown below.
Step #3: Draw the penguins wings/flippers. Draw the penguins markings and add the legs and skates.
Step #4: Draw shoreline and hills in the background.
Step #5: Now its time to add your own details like scarves, hats and more.
