Artist: Andy Warhol " Red Cat Sam"

Image
Art innovator Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987) He and his mother, Julia Warhola , both loved cats and had several of their own, all named Sam except for one called Hester. They were one of his favorite subjects in the 1950s, before he became acclaimed for his Pop Art portrayals of soup cans, Coke bottles and Marilyn Monroe. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator , Warhol became famous worldwide for his work as a painter, avant-garde filmmaker, record producer , author , and public figure. Our lesson concentrates on line and color to create our Warhol’s “Red Cat Sam” work. "Red Cat Sam" is part of a art book Andy Warhol made with his mother in 1955 called "25 Cats Named Sam". He gave away these art books as Christmas presents. Materials: Heavyweight paper, sketching pencil and your choice of materials to finish. Alhambra Geometric Design

Image
Al-Andalus was the Arabic name given to a nation in parts of Spain governed by Muslims (given the generic name of Moors), at various times in the period between 711 and 1492. The Moors were the most culturally sophisticated people in Europe. The Alhambra designs from the palaces in Granada are used as our inspiration for our lesson. We used geometric patterns and shapes to create our work. These designs can look simple but very complicated . Materials: Heavyweight sketching paper, sketching pencil, ruler, card stock for template. Your choice of materials to finish project. Step #1: Draw guidelines down the center and across the middle of the page. Use a ruler to make a 3" square template. Outline the 3" square template where your guidelines intersect. Then take your 3" template and turn it 90 degrees clockwise and outline it again as shown below. Step #2: Start from the center and create your symmetrical design. For this example i was inspired by flower design...

Artist: Modigliani "Bride and Groom"

Image
Amedeo Modigliani  (1884 - 1920) was a late-18th century European artist who never lived to see his success, but his paintings are some of my all-time favorites. He settled in Paris in 1906 and was friends with Picasso, Brancusi and Soutine. I love his portraits with elongated faces in soulful colors. Modigliani drew his faces in stretched proportions as his eyes usually sit near the top of the face. Our project of the "Bride and Groom" 1915, works with facial proportions, color, shapes and space to create our elongated portrait. Materials: Heavyweight paper, Sketching pencil, sharpie and colored pencils, pastel chalk or oil pastels to finish. Step #1: Draw light guidelines across the middle and down the center of the page. Draw a "U" shape for the mans head and a large narrow oval for the woman's head as shown below. Step #2: Draw the eyes, nose mouth and ears of the man and woman. Draw the man with a mustache and the woman with a earring. Step #3: Draw ...
