Georgia Okeefe "Red Poppy No. VI" Project
Georgia O'Keefe is one a favorite artist of mine, I show students how she painted flowers first how she felt about them and then how she saw them. (1887 – 1986) was an American artist. Born near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Georgia O'Keeffe was a major figure in American art from the 1920s. She received widespread recognition for her technical contributions, as well as for challenging the boundaries of modern American artistic style. She had a long and varied career but is mostly famous for her over sized flowers and desert paintings. Georgia painted flowers 50 times their actual size so people could appreciate the beauty she felt in every petal. We use watercolor pencils to create the softness of the flower. Our lesson works with proportion, color, and shapes to create our over sized flower. Materials: Watercolor paper or heavyweight drawing paper, sketching pencil, watercolor pencils or paint.
